re: The Lich king tatics

0
Heroic Difficulty

Shadow Traps in phase one spawn on people's locations, and after a few seconds, launch anyone still on them 1,000 yards off the platform (in an extremely comical manner).

Val'kyr HP triples, however they drop their target at 50% health and fly above the raid and begin casting Siphon Life on the raid until they are killed.

In the third phase the entire raid will be pulled into Frostmourne instead of one person. Wicked Spirits will fall from above which must be dodged/killed. Any deaths will still result in Harvested Soul being applied to the Lich King and it can stack.

Phase four is unchanged.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just thought i'ld post these on the forums if we get the chance for a shot on it tonight

The Lich King is easily the longest, most complicated and most difficult encounter in Icecrown Citadel. Tanks will have a lot on their hands with snap threat, tank switches, cooldown use and positioning. Healers will be dealing with massive, unpredictable damage spikes and considerable raid and tank damage. DPS will need to switch targets rapidly while still maintaining extremely high sustained damage. Everyone in the raid will need to react extremely quickly to many of the Lich King's abilities, often at the same time. This encounter is a fitting end to Wrath of the Lich King and features a level of difficulty not seen since Yogg-Saron in Ulduar.

The Lich King melees for roughly 40,000 on an item level 264 geared tank on 25-player difficulty. The Lich King will go into a berserker rage after 15 minutes of combat, gaining 900% damage, immunity to taunt and 500% movement speed.

Phase 1 Summon Drudge Ghouls — Summons 3 Drudge Ghoulsω τ α over 3 seconds.
Summon Shambling Horror — Summons a Shambling Horrorω τ α.
Enrage — Increases Physical damage by 200% 1 sec cast (7 sec cooldown)
Shockwave Melee range — Sends a wave of force in front of the caster, causing 0 damage and stunning all enemy targets within 20 yards in a frontal cone for 0 sec. 1.25 sec cast. 150% weapon damage. (3 sec cooldown)
Necrotic Plague 50,000 yd range — Infects the target with a deadly plague, causing 50,000 Shadow damage every 5 seconds for 15 seconds. If the target dies while afflicted or the effect ends, this effect will gain an additional stack and jump to a nearby unit. If this effect is dispelled, it will lose a stack and jump to a nearby unit. Whenever this effect jumps, the Lich King's power will increase. Instant. Disease. 100,000/5 on 25-player.
Plague Siphon — Increases physical damage dealt by 2%. Stack increases each time Necrotic Plague jumps. 30 sec duration. Stacks to 500
Infest — Deals 6,598 to 7,402 Shadow damage to all enemy players within 50,000 yards. In addition, the targets will take increasing Shadow damage per second. This effect is removed when the target has more than 90% health. 2 sec cast. 9,425 to 10,575 on 25-player
Phase 1.5 and 2.5 Remorseless Winter — Creates a massive winter storm, dealing 9,425 to 10,575 Frost damage per second to all surrounding enemies within 45 yards.
Pain and Suffering — Inflicts 2,828 to 3,172 Shadow damage to enemies in a frontal cone, as well as an additional 500 Shadow damage every 3 seconds, stacking up to 5 times.
Summon Ice Sphere — Summons 1 Ice Sphere. This will cast Ice Burst when it reaches its target, doing 10,000 frost damage and knocking the target back (off the edge of the platform to their death).
Summon Raging Spirit — Every 20 seconds for phase 1.5 and every 15 seconds for phase 2.5 the Lich King will summon a raging spirit with Soul Shriek.
Soul Shriek — Inflicts 18,850 to 21,150 Shadow damage and silences the affected targets for 5 seconds. Targets a frontal cone.
Phase 2The Lich King retains Infest.

Soul Reaper — Inflicts 50% weapon damage as Shadowstrike damage and causes 50,000 (25-man 60,000) Shadow Damage after 5 seconds. Used on the current tank.
Defile — Inflicts 3,000 Shadow damage to all players in the targeted area. Every time a player takes damage from this, Defile's damage and area increase.
Summon Val'kyr Shadowguard — Calls a Val'kyr Shadowguard which attempts to pick up a player and drop them off the edge of Icecrown Citadel.
Phase 3The Lich King retains Soul Reaper and Defile.

Harvest Soul — Inflicts 7,500 (25-man 15,000) Shadow damage every second for 6 seconds. If the target is still alive after the channel is over, their soul will be transferred to Frostmourne.
Harvest Soul — Damage Increased by 200% for 15 seconds. If the Harvest Soul target dies the Lich King will gain this buff.
Vile Spirits — Summons 10 Vile Spirits that become active after 30 seconds. These will cast Spirit Burst when they become active doing 14,138 to 15,862 Shadow damage to players within 5 yards.
Fury of Frostmourne — Deals 1,000,000 Shadow damage to all enemies.
Spirit Warden Soul Rip — Deals increasing Shadow damage per second for 8 seconds. Interruptable. Magic dispellable.
Dark Hunger — Heals the caster for half of any damage dealt. Always active.
Terenas Menethil Light's Favor — Heals the caster for 5000 every second and increases damage dealt proportional to health. Always active.

Phase 1
In the early stages of the fight, you can tank the Lich King anywhere along the edge of the platform. Harmless ghouls and very dangerous Shambling Horrors spawn during this phase. Horrors have a frontal cleave and an extremely dangerous enrage—this can be tranquilized, or you can stun them for its duration. Do not attack the Shambling Horrors or Ghouls directly; instead, use the Lich King's Necrotic Plague ability to kill them. He applies Necrotic Plague on a random player, who will die if it is not dispelled within 5 seconds. Because a dispelled Necrotic Plague jumps to the nearest unit—including Shambling Horrors—a player who becomes infected should immediately run towards the adds so that the plague, when dispelled, jump to them. This lets you focus DPS on the Lich King. If any Horrors are up entering the phase transition, kill them just before phasing the Lich King. Ghouls may be left alive to die to incidental damage in the transition.

The Lich King also periodically casts Infest, which requires the raid's HP to be topped off quickly to remove the dot. A Discipline-specced priest can proactively shield the raid between Infest casts, helping to minimize the amount the raid needs to be healed.

You should aim to end this phase with around 15 stacks of Plague Siphon on the Lich King. You should dispel any remaining plagues off the shambler tank when he is standing off by himself so the plague will disappear and Plague Siphon will drop off the Lich King before the second phase begins.

Phase 1.5 – Remorseless WinterAt 70% health, the Lich King moves to the center of the arena, away from the tank, and begins casting Remorseless Winter. When he moves away from the tank, the raid must flee to the far side of the platform (opposite the Frozen Throne). Tanking the Lich King near the edge gives him a greater distance to travel before casting Remorseless Winter, giving the raid more time to react and a shorter distance to run.

During the transition, the Lich King summons a Raging Spirit on random players, and after five seconds a Raging Spirit will spawn on top of them. These melee very hard and possess a frontal cone-area silence ability. One will spawn every 20 seconds including one spawning at the end of the transition for three total. These should be killed as quickly as possible to ensure that only one is up in phase two. Frost orbs will head towards the raid and explode if they reach it. They have few HP and can be killed by ranged DPS. Pain and Suffering is a stacking DOT that will be applied to random raid members in this phase. It spreads to nearby players so you can't be too close to each other.

When the Lich King kneels and lights up the ground around him, the raid must return to the center area of the platform before the edges of the platform falls (The area that is about to fall becomes very obvious). Continue to kill any remaining Raging Spirits, but the tank should pick up the Lich King again as quickly as possible.

Phase 2
Take the Lich King to the centre of the room. You will want the Val'kyr in this phase to have as far to fly as possible.

He will begin to summon Val'kyr Shadowguards (450,000 health on 10 Man Normal). These Shadowguards can grab a single raid member, lifting them into the air dragging them over the edge of the platform followed by dropping them to their deaths. The Val'kyr, therefore, should be killed as fast as possible. Val'kyrs can be snared and stunned but not rooted. Defile and Val'kyrs will often line up and you will need to deal with both at the same time.

The Lich King will periodically cast Defile, which produces a pool of darkness over an area of the arena. Defile is incredibly dangerous because it grows in both size and damage every time it ticks on a player, quickly covering the entire room and killing the raid.

Soul Reaper is a monstrously damaging debuff applied on the Lich King's current tank every 30 seconds. It can be helpful to taunt off your current tank with another tank when Soul Reaper is applied, otherwise there is the possibility of the Lich King melee-ing at the same time the Soul Reaper dot ticks which will instantly kill your tank.

Phase 2.5 – Remorseless WinterWhen the Lich King falls below 40%, he will cast Remorseless Winter again, forcing the raid to the edge of the platform. This should be fought exactly like the first Remorseless Winter. Four Raging Spirits this time spawning every 15 seconds. When this attack ends, Phase 3 begins.

Phase 3
The Lich King begins expelling numerous Vile Spirits (10-man normal: 66,000 health; 25-man normal: 200,000) from Frostmourne, which move toward the raid and explode. The most obvious way to deal with them is to kill them before they begin moving—fire mages, shadow priests, affliction warlocks and moonkins are very effective at this. The Spirits move extremely quickly at the start but slow down over time, thus snares such as Earthbind Totem also function on them. An effective strategy is to drag the Lich King to the edge of the room and then drag him all the way to the opposite side after he spawns Vile Spirits, and kite them through Earthbind Totems and frost traps. Vile Spirits gain a small amount of threat on a random player when they begin moving but they can be both taunted and outthreated. The tank who is not tanking can taunt the Spirits onto him and absorb their damage.

You will assuredly have 1-2 Raging Spirits up as phase 3 begins so you will need to have melee DPS kill these as the ranged deal with the Vile Spirits.

During phase 3, the Lich King continues to periodically cast Defile and Soul Reaper but no longer cast Infest nor summon Val'kyr Shadowguards. Instead, he now casts a new spell called Harvest Soul every 70 seconds on a random raid member, which causes 45,000 (25-man 90,000) damage over six seconds. Victims who survive are sucked into Frostmourne and must fight their way out. You will likely need to use a damage reduction cooldown such as pain suppression on the target on 25-player difficulty.

You have 15 minutes from the beginning of phase one to push him into phase four or he will enrage. His enrage gives him an enormous buff to his damage output, but he does not one-shot the raid when he enrages like some other major bosses; therefore it is still possible to push him into phase four (and thus defeat him) after he enrages.[1]

Inside FrostmourneHealers can heal King Terenas' spirit while he kills the Spirit Warden within Frostmourne, while DPS classes must kill the Spirit Warden before it kills King Terenas. When the Spirit Warden dies you will escape Frostmourne. The Spirit Warden will channel an interruptable magic dispellable debuff called Soul Rip on King Terenas that does increasing damage every second for 8 seconds, to the point where Terenas will die at the end of the cast. The Spirit Warden also heals for 50% of damage it does meaning stunning it is very helpful.

The Spirit Warden is vulnerable to most forms of CC and interrupts that affect Undead creatures.

You will gain a debuff in Frostmourne called Harvest Soul that increases your damage by 100% and kills you after 60 seconds if you do not escape Frostmourne. Should you die inside Frostmourne or to harvest soul the Lich King will gain 200% damage for 15 seconds.

Phase 4
At 10% health, the Lich King casts Fury of Frostmourne and kills all members of the raid. THIS IS INTENDED - this is not a wipe, so do not release! The Lich King and Tirion will have an exchange during which Tirion destroys Frostmourne using the Ashbringer. The ghost of Terenas Menethil II will appear and resurrect the raid while holding the Lich King in place. Players must use this opportunity to finish off the Lich King.

Note: It is currently unknown whether there is a time limit to how long Terenas will hold the Lich King in the air.

Read it and watch the vid below and you should be all set and knowing exactly what do do during all phases.

Phase1:

Summon Shambling Horror: LK will spawn one every ~35 sec during phase 1. Need to be picked up by the offtank immediately

shambling Horror ability´s: Enrage - This ability is used by Shambling Horrors every ~20-30 seconds to buff themselves for 6 seconds, increasing the damage from their melee swing by 200%. It can be removed with Tranquilizing Shot and Anesthetic Poison.
Shockwave - Shambling Horrors will use this ability every ~20 seconds to stun anyone in a 20 yard frontal cone of them for X seconds. The tank handling the Shambling Horrors should keep them facing away from the rest of the raid for this reason.

Summon Drudge Ghouls: LK will spawn them (3) every ~30 sec during phase 1. Should be picked up by the MT immediately

Infest: Around every 20 sec, 6500 – 7500 damage at start, hit entire raid, shadow Damage, DoT, Hits harder every second its on its target, Removed by health above 90%

Necrotic Plague: Applies a DoT, 50000 shadow damage every 5 seconds for 15 secs, Casted every ~25 sec at random raid member, If the player with the debuff Dies/effect ends/debuff removed the debuff jumps to the closest a target within 10 yards, Can be player or add, No viable target the debuff disappear. The person with Necrotic plague have to react fast and stand close to a Shambling Horror so the debuff jumps to it.

Plague Siphon: This is a buff that stacks on The Lich King every time Necrotic Plague jumps to a new target. Each stack increases the boss' damage by 2% for 30 seconds, with new stacks refreshing the duration.

Phase 2: at 70% Transition into phase 2 The Lich King will run away from the tank and take up a position in the center of the room. Once there, he will begin using the abilities listed below on your raid, continuing for 60 seconds, before casting Quake and then transitioning into Phase 3

Remorseless Winter: The Lich King will use this 2.5 second cast ability as soon as he is in position in the center of the room. Once used, it starts pulsing around 8000 frost damage every second to any player within 45 yards of the boss, and continues to pulse for the entire 60 seconds of Phase 2.

Pain and Suffering - After casting Remorseless Winter, The Lich King will begin to use this ability on random raid members, casting it repeatedly for the duration of Phase 2 any time he isn't summoning an add. The ability hits anyone within an ~15 degree frontal cone from the boss, centered on the targeted player, dealing shadow damage and applying a small 3 second DoT that can stack up to 5 times

Summon Ice Sphere: Every 6-8 second during phase2, insta cast ice sphere near his position, will move towards the targeted player, needs to be killed by ranged DPS before getting 10 yards of the player

Summon Raging Spirit: Every 20 sec during phase2, Will target random raid member and spawn a raging spirit at its location, needs to be picked up immediatly by a tank and faced out over the edge away from players.

Quake: after 60 seconds Remorseless winter ends, Lich King will cast Quake (1.5sec) ability that will cause the outer platform to collapse, The raid needs to be positioned right at the edge of RW´s range to be able to run in towards the center of the platform the moment the pulsing frost damage stops.

Phase3: He will continue using Infest in this phase but he will not summon Shambling Horrors or Drudge Ghouls. Insted he will have the following 3 new abilities

Summon Val´kyr Shadowguard: LK will spawn one every 40 – 45 sec during phase3, The Val´kyr will pick up a player and start flying towards the end of the platform to drop em off. To prevent this the Val´kyr must be killed immediately. Val´kyrs should be stunned/slowed but cant rooted. For extra time to DPS the Val´kyrs people should be as close to the middle of the platform as possible.

Soul Reaper: LK will use this ability on the current tank every ~30 sec, it hits for a shitload of damage and leaves a 5 second debuff on the tank, When the 5 seconds are up the tank takes additional 50k shadow damage and the LK will hit alot faster for the next 5 secs. So as soon as the current tank recives this debuff the OT should taunt the boss and tank him. As soon as the debuff wears off on the MT and the 50k damage he took has been healed up he should take the boss back untill next Soul Reaper. Healers need to be very awake here since the OT and MT will take alot of damage.

Defile: By far the biggest threth in phase3, LK will use this Ability every ~35 sec, Targeting a random raid member (can be MT aswell) Defile has a 2 second cast after that the targeted raidmember will leave an oily patch on the ground under him/her. This oily patch will do alot of shadowdamage to anyone being hit by it, it will also grow if it hits player, also do more damage the more it grows. This ability is a big threth becouse of the Valkyr aswell since wile the player who gets this debuff runs away a valkyr could very well pick him up and start traveling towards the edge of the platform. So overall try to keep the ~middle of the room clear from this patches.

Phase4: At 40% health the transition to phase4 begins. This phase is just the same as phase 2 but the time between raging spirits will be shorter, right before the LK starts casting RW again the outer edge of the platform will reappear, people will need to be ready for that and move out on it asap.

Phase5: In this phase he will continue to use Infest, Soul Reaper, and Defile but no Val´kyrs. Ofcourse there are some new ability since we havent had enough!

Vile Spirits: LK will use this ability every ~30 sec to summon Vile Spirits in the air above him (10 of them) They need to be killed asap by ranged, they will float above in the air for about 15 second before each chosing a raid member to follow. If the spirit come within melee range of the targeted player it will explode and deal a big badass aoe damage to anyone within 5 yards. If spirits are up when they target a player the player targeted should kite the spirit untill its killed by the ranged dps.

Harvest Soul: Will be used every ~75 secs on a random raidmember (not tanks!) The player targeted will take 7500 damage every sec for 6 secs, This must be healed, if the player dies he will give a 100% damage buff to the LK for 15 seconds.

Harvest Soul part 2 if you survived it as you should: If the player survives he will get ported inside Frostmourne, once in there you will see Terenas Menethil fighting a Spirit warden. You as DPS need to kill the spirit and if a healer gets ported you need to heal Terenas Menethil. You will be kept there for 60 seconds, if you fail to either Kill the spirit or (healer) heal terenas to full the spirit warden will cast Destroy Soul on you witch will kill you and buff the LK, if you manage to do your job right you will be sent back to the raid again.

Part 1

Part 2
