re: Yor'sahj the Unsleeping Heroic

0

Heroic mode changes:
- Yor'sahj will spawn 4 oozes instead of 3 (you can still only kill one)
- fact that the boss is buffed by 3 oozes does not add complexity to the fight, third ooze only adds more raid damage
- task for raid stay same as in normal mode: stack on the boss, spread out, DPS the Mana Void & the Forgotten Ones and handle Deep Corruption
- all abilities deal more damage and Yor'sahj, oozes, Forgotten Ones and Mana Void have more health
- Yor'sahj has 10-minute enrage timer

Strategy points:
- heal the extreme damage caused by having black ~ red ~ yellow at the same time
- have the healers not blow the raid up when purple is up
- strike a balance between attacking the boss and killing the oozes, Forgotten Ones and Mana Void

Blizzard made it so that there is only 6 combinations:
black ~ blue ~ green ~ purple
black ~ blue ~ green ~ red
black ~ blue ~ purple ~ yellow
black ~ green ~ red ~ yellow
black ~ purple ~ red ~ yellow
blue ~ green ~ purple ~ yellow

Remainder: oozes and what they do:
Green: Poison AOE, everyone spread out
Purple: Every 5th heal causes a massive explosion.
Yellow: Boss attacks twice as often and fast
Blue: A void sphere spawns that drains mana. Kill it to regain all mana
Red: Huge Fire damage, stack up
Black: Summons adds. Stack up and Kill them

Ooze Priority
The general ooze priority is yellow > green.
Exceptions are:
- black ~ purple ~ red ~ yellow: kill purple instead of yellow, this will enable you to heal through the extreme damage — though, with a healing setup comprising several paladins (many of their spells do not trigger Deep Corruption), it might be better to kill yellow and deal with purple;
- black ~ green ~ red ~ yellow; kill green instead of yellow, this will enable you to stack up on the boss and efficiently heal the extreme damage.
- black ~ blue ~ green ~ purple combination, you can kill black instead of green. This will make your raid gain precious DPS by not having to take down the adds, but your raid will have to be properly positioned (otherwise, the healers might panic trying to heal Digestive Acid, causing them to trigger Deep Corruption explosions).

Healing strategies
Black ~ Red ~ Yellow
This combination of oozes will be the hardest to heal. Fortunately, since the raid will be stacked up on the boss, AoE healing cooldowns should be kept and used for this combination: Power Word: Barrier, Spirit Link Totem, Aura Mastery, etc. Note that this combination can come twice or thrice in a row, meaning that raid should try to use AoE healing cooldowns sparingly, only when necessary.

Purple aka Deep Corruption
Debuff will stack on players every time they get a heal or receive an absorb effect. At 5 stacks, the player will explode and deal a massive amount of raid-wide damage. Healers _must_ have it show in their raid frame addons (spell id: 105171 / name: Deep Corruption). Purple is always up in combination with blue(no damage) and either of black or green(moderate damage). Purple is never combined with a highly damaging ooze.

Check here what adds stacks and what does not (also DPS should check this): us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/3657444001
Set Bonuses, Trinkets and Weapon Procs: No stacks.
Dranei racial Gift of the Naaru: 1 stack
Mage Ice Block: Clears stacks
Most AOE heals: If you leave and re-enter, you gain another stack.
etc...

Enrage timer and DPS strategies
Oozes
Killing the oozes might not require the entire raids DPS. It takes the oozes approximately 23 seconds to reach the boss, from the moment that they spawn. This means that you need about 360k DPS in 25-man difficulty (note, progressive DS nerf not added to this number). Try to determine how many DPS should be sent to kill the ooze (high burst damage classes).

Forgotten Ones
Forgotten Ones spawn in all ooze combinations except one. To maximize DPS to the boss you can assign this add duty for classes that can spread their damage on the boss to the adds (for example, Combat Rogues with Blade Flurry, Fire Mages with Impact and Combustion) or classes that can spread their damage on the adds to the boss (for example, Warlocks with Bane of Havoc, Enhancement Shamans with Lava Lash, Improved Lava Lash, Flame Shock, and Fire Nova).

Dealing with the Forgotten Ones in this way means that they will remain alive longer, which increases raid damage (or tank damage, if the tank managed to taunt them before they fixated on someone).

Mana Voids
You can save the trouble of killing one Mana Void and thus prevent wiping to the enrage timer at 2% health. To do this ignore the first Mana Void (try getting it to 20-30% by the time the next set of oozes spawn) and use cooldowns such as Hymn of Hope and Mana Tide Totem after it has depleted all casters of their mana.

The idea is to survive with rather low mana for one phase or two, until you get a second Mana Void (something that should happen quickly enough as 4 of the 6 combinations have blue). Then, as soon as the second Mana Void has depleted all casters of their mana, the first Mana Void should be killed. Hopefully it will be on low health, after taking a bit of damage now and then. After that, you should keep the second Mana Void as a means of re-filling your raid's mana after the third Mana Void spawns and so on.

DPS strategies above are suggestions, always listen to your RL.

I did fast excel calculation and visio timeline to see how healing cooldowns should be used on red-black-yellow. From guides we know that:
- initial phase lasts for 20 seconds
- oozes are summoned roughly every 75 seconds
- it takes approximately 23 seconds for oozes to reach the boss

Here is picture from situation where the first 3 ooze combinations require AoE cooldown usage. As you can see; with 3minute cooldows we can use 3 groups of healers aka 2xcd per bad combination. Note: if CD is used late on AoE healing phase it might not be ready on time... unlucy situation? Still need to be prepared? Healing CD from DPS? Enough to keep people alive?

AoE cooldowns:
3min
Power Word: Barrier
Divine Hymn (holy)
Spirit Link Totem
Tranquility

other:
Aura Mastery 2min
Divine Hymn (disc) 8min

On top of this we also have the tank 4 set bonus.

Death Knight's Vampiric blood has a 1 min cd so can be used on every add phase.

Prot warrior's Shield Wall have 2 min cd unless glyphed which makes it 4 min.

And from dps we have potentially other raid cd's:
Tranquility from druids
Divine Hymn from priests
Rallying Cry from warriors
Anti-Magic Zone from unholy death knights

And ofcourse personal survival cd's e.g:
Barkskin
Shamanistic Rage
Anti-Magic Shell

We probably need to better coordinate when to use cd's.

If we take yesterdays raid as an example.

We could have used 3 groups of 2 healing cd's so 2 strong healing cd's are used each high damage ooze phase.
Have Jon's Vampiric Blood each phase
And have Jojan and Pob use their cd on every second phase.
That would give us 4 raid cd's each high damage phase.
And on top of that we would have the other longer cd healing and dps cd's as emergency buttons.

Then there is the question when to use all those cd's.

And example where we use the above raid combination could be:
First use PW:B / Spirit Link
Second use Vampiric Blood some sec after the other cd expires.
Use Hymn/Tranq during PW:B (if glyphed) or Vampiric Blood for extra healing.
Third use Shield Wall/Aura Mastery after Vampiric Blood
Fourth use low cd personal survival tools.
Use emergency buttons if needed.
And be ready to use long cd personal survival tools if you get low on health.

But it also depends on raid composition, as we might not have all the tools (e.g. do we allow Jon to go on holiday Happy ).

Another question is do we need cd's right from start or is it better to wait so we have more coverage when all adds are spawned?

Yep, that kind of cooldown usage is needed. But as last night show us, people tend to use theid cooldowns when they like, even if they have orders. That is why I dislike this kind on random boss. It is much easier to say people that you use your cooldown with first phase change and you on second.

With this boss everyone should count and remember how many bad oozes we have had. For healers it is somehow ok, but for tank/DPS there are so many other things to look after. I don't say it is impossible and according last night it is really needed, but it will be hard.
